Itinerary
We will start our tour by picking you up and driving to Planina Blato above Bohinj (45min from Bled). Our meeting time depends on the forecast and time of the year and will be set a day or two before the tour. After a quick gear check, we will start walking in the forest and through mountain pastures, slowly starting to gain altitude before reaching Vodnik hut after about 4h. There is a freshwater spring there as well as an opportunity to eat a quick lunch. After another 2h of uphill hiking, we reach Planika Lodge, our home for the night.
12.8 km (8 mi) · +1600 m / -400 m (+5260 ft / -1300 ft)
On our second day, we will gear up and start climbing Triglav early in the morning. The climb takes around 1.5h and from the summit we descend to the other side, reaching Dolič mountain hut after around 2.5h. After a break, another short but easy climb awaits us before descending to Prehodavci Lodge. There we slowly descend through the beautiful Seven Lakes Valley, reaching our resting lodge at the Double Lake.
14 km (8.7 mi) · +800 m / -1450 m (+2600 ft / -4750 ft)
Our last day is easier, as we slowly make our way past authentic mountain pastures descending back to our car. If there is energy left, there is also an opportunity to reach another viewpoint on the way. We are usually back at the car sometime around the early afternoon.

What to bring to the tour
Description
Experience the very best of Slovenia’s Julian Alps by trekking across the glorious landscape of Triglav National Park. On this adventurous hike, you will ascend Slovenia’s highest mountain, venture through the unbelievably beautiful Triglav Lakes Valley, witness nature’s imaginative creations, and sleep in authentic mountain huts.
This hut-to-hut hiking tour starts at picturesque Bohinj. The first day is spent hiking in the heart of Triglav National Park. As we head deeper into the mountains, the terrain changes and stunning views open up. We make our way past the famous Vodnik Lodge and up to the Planika Lodge near Mt. Triglav where we spend the night. The following day, it’s time to finish the job of conquering Slovenia’s highest peak. It’s the most technically demanding leg of our journey, but our expert guide will make sure everyone feels safe and secure.
From Triglav, we will descend over the western Triglav plateau to the Dolič hut, then over Hribarice pass to the scenic Prehodavci hut with the northern Julian Alps panorama. Then we will hike through the magical Triglav Lakes Valley, also called the Seven Lakes Valley, home to seven stunning glacial lakes in picture-perfect locations. We will spend the night right in the middle, at the Triglav Lakes Hut.
The last day will see us hike across high-mountain pastures, where some shepherds still keep the traditional cheesemaking alive. We hike through this breathtakingly scenic place and back to our starting point above Bohinj.
This fantastic journey comprises some of the best panoramic views of the Julian Alps and their hidden valleys. You might even meet the local wildlife population, like the chamois or ibex. The trails are not too demanding and suitable for amateur hikers. However, a certain level of physical fitness is necessary, especially for climbing Mt. Triglav. You will get to taste authentic Alpine cuisine and feel that special type of freedom that comes with hiking, sleeping, and waking high in the Alps. As the famous naturalist John Muir once said: “In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.”
NOTE: It can be busy up there in the summer. To ensure your spot in the lodges, we recommend booking the tour several weeks in advance, especially for the weekends. For last-minute bookings, we cannot guarantee a free spot in the chosen lodge, but we will try our best or find the most suitable alternative for you.

Things to know
Triglav is amongst the most popular mountains in Slovenia. It has a great symbolic value for us and the saying goes that you are not a true Slovenian until you stand on its summit. Therefore, you can expect a lot of people on the mountain in the high season (July-September), especially on weekends. On week-days, however, it is much more peaceful. Luckily, our guides have some tricks up their sleeves when it comes to avoiding the crowds. Hint: they know exactly when and where to go.
Thousands of people climb Mt.Triglav every year. Some come better prepared than others, who underestimate the climb, which can lead to accidents. But with the right approach, knowing the weather conditions (especially the possibility of thunderstorms and snowfall), with the proper safety equipment and an experienced guide, you can minimize the objective dangers and feel completely safe.
Mountain huts in the Slovenian mountains are very cosy and authentic, but provide only basic comfort. Don’t expect too much luxury. Early bookings are usually rewarded with a room but if all rooms are full there are dormitories. There is no shower and the lavatories are basic. There is running water but it is not drinkable. The food is tasty and local but the menu is limited to a few dishes and drinks.
The earlier the better. The highest season, from July to September, it is not unusual for huts to be fully booked for months ahead. Weekdays are better but we still suggest bookings at least a month in advance. Last-minute bookings are very dependable on the weather – if the forecast is not a perfect bluebird, then some spots usually become available a few days before.
It is important that your clothes are comfortable. You should have comfortable shoes with a good grip. It is recommended that you also have some warmer and windproof clothing with you as the temperature can drop or in case of cold wind. You can always leave excess clothes in the van after consulting with our guide.
You should take at least 1.5 liters of water per person since there is a freshwater spring on the way to the hut, where you can buy bottled water and other drinks. You should also have a few snacks and energy bars that will hold you up each day between the huts.
In case of bad weather the tour can be postponed or you will be fully refunded.
The season stated is informative. In case of dry conditions, the tour is also possible sooner or later in the year. If there is early or late snow in the mountains the season is shorter. I that case take a look at our Triglav in winter tour or we can suggest an alternative.
We will make a reservation at the hut for you at the time of your booking in advance and you can pay cash on the spot. There are rooms available if you book early enough, otherwise, there are cheaper dormitories – let us know your preferred option. For half-board, having about 70 € with you per night per person should be enough.
We believe that your experience will be better in smaller groups. Therefore, there will be a maximum of 4 guests per guide.
You don’t need any prior experience for the tour, however, you should be comfortable with three full days of hiking with breaks.
Our tours are led by professional local guides. Our guides will make sure that you receive expert guiding combined with great fun and a memorable experience.
Our minimum age for Triglav tour is 12 years old. Children should be able to hike for two full days with stops. If you are planning to go on a tour with young kids, please let us know in advance and we can adjust the tour if necessary.
We can’t transfer luggage between the huts since they’re not accessible by car. However, we’re happy to recommend luggage storage solutions for your convenience.
