Explore the pristine nature of Slovenia’s largest national park on one of the most popular hikes in the Julian Alps. The environment inside the park is protected and thus pure. If you’re used to city air, a deep breath here will feel like taking off a weighted vest.

And make no mistake – we’ll make sure you’ll be getting plenty of oxygen by making you breathe heavily. This is not the easiest hike and it does take some stamina. However, it should be more than manageable for most fit people.

The tour is not very steep or technical, but requires a solid fitness level of hiking for around w8 hours.

We will start the hike at a relatively high altitude. Hiking through the forests we will reach several high alpine pastures, where shepherds communities still operate and produce dairy products. There are two mountain huts offering refreshments on the way, the second one being our goal for the day, by the magnificent Double Lake

There are more lakes higher up the valley, but exploring the upper part of the Seven lakes valley is most enjoyable in a two-day hike. We will be happy to customize the tour for you upon request!

Things to know

Triglav is amongst the most popular mountains in Slovenia. It has a great symbolic value for us and the saying goes that you are not a true Slovenian until you stand on its summit. Therefore, you can expect a lot of people on the mountain in the high season (July-September), especially on weekends. On week-days, however, it is much more peaceful. Luckily, our guides have some tricks up their sleeves when it comes to avoiding the crowds. Hint: they know exactly when and where to go.

Thousands of people climb Mt.Triglav every year. Some come better prepared than others, who underestimate the climb, which can lead to accidents. But with the right approach, knowing the weather conditions (especially the possibility of thunderstorms and snowfall), with the proper safety equipment and an experienced guide, you can minimize the objective dangers and feel completely safe.

Mountain huts in the Slovenian mountains are very cosy and authentic, but provide only basic comfort. Don’t expect too much luxury. Early bookings are usually rewarded with a room but if all rooms are full there are dormitories. There is no shower and the lavatories are basic. There is running water but it is not drinkable. The food is tasty and local but the menu is limited to a few dishes and drinks.

The earlier the better. The highest season, from July to September, it is not unusual for huts to be fully booked for months ahead. Weekdays are better but we still suggest bookings at least a month in advance. Last-minute bookings are very dependable on the weather – if the forecast is not a perfect bluebird, then some spots usually become available a few days before.

It is important that your clothes are comfortable. It is recommended that you also have some warmer and windproof clothing with you as temperature can drop or in case of cold wind. You can always leave excess clothes in the van after consulting with our guide.

Even though Slovenia is small, it has quite a diverse climate, so it is not unusual for the weather to be better in another part of the country. In that case, we will suggest a different tour where the weather will be nice. If offered alternative tour doesn’t suit you or if the weather is not suitable for hiking, you will receive a full refund if you have already prepaid our tour.

The season stated is informative. In case of dry conditions, the tour is also possible sooner or later in the year. If there is early or late snow in the mountains the season is shorter. I that case we can always suggest an alternative.

We believe that your experience will be better in smaller groups. Therefore, there will be a maximum of 8 guests per guide.

The tour is flexible and can be adjusted to your preferences, skills and fitness. Nevertheless, you should be comfortable hiking for 8 hours with breaks.

Our tours are led by professional local guides. Our guides will make sure that you receive expert guiding combined with great fun and a memorable experience.

Children are also welcomed on the tour. Children should be able to hike for a few hours uphill with breaks. If you are planning to go on a tour with young kids, please let us know in advance and we can adjust the tour if necessary.

There are different ways to count the lakes in the ‘Seven’ lakes valley. Sometimes the double lake is counted as two lakes, and some of the lakes dry up in the summer and are not counted. In total there are 10 lakes. One of the lakes (The Black lake) is much lower and as we start our hike higher up we don’t get to see it. Also, there are four more lakes higher up the valley, where we usually go only on two-day hikes. But no worries, even if we only have one day, you will get to see the best Triglav lakes valley has to offer!
