Triglav is a longstanding Slovene tradition. It involves a perfect combination of physical challenges, spectacular views, and pride that comes with standing on this symbolically important summit. If you possess a decent amount of stamina and the desire to reach higher, then ascending Triglav is something you simply must try. There’s no hiking adventure quite like it!

At 2,863 m (or 9,395 ft), Triglav towers above the other peaks of Slovenia’s Julian Alps. Not only is it the most popular mountain, the climb up to its peak is among the most pleasurable. Although many alpine enthusiasts tackle Triglav’s slopes during the high season, our expert guides know the best trails off the beaten path. You can avoid the crowds and enjoy the striking mountain backdrop and the local wildlife to the fullest. Don’t be surprised if a chamois or marmot strides into very close proximity indeed.

This classic Triglav ascent begins in the lovely Krma Valley*. Known as the easiest approach, it’s a relatively undemanding route, suitable for families and hikers with limited mountaineering experience. However, a solid level of fitness is required. Gorgeous scenes of unspoilt alpine terrain are revealed as we gain altitude above the treeline, up gravel paths and over stony ridges to the Planika Lodge. It’s where we will spend the night in the super romantic embrace of the powerful mountains.

Depending on your preparedness and weather conditions, the final push to the summit can take place the same afternoon or early the following morning. Your guide will lead you up the steep incline, which includes a 400 m via ferrata trail. Don’t worry, it’s all very safe and secure, but you will have to do some climbing. Reaching the top is a triumphant feeling that will definitely keep your spirits high for the panoramic descent into civilisation below. And don’t be surprised if you want to do it all over again. Trust us, it’s a common aftereffect among Triglav hikers. It’s just that awesome!

NOTE: It can be busy up there in the summer. To ensure your spot in the lodge, we recommend booking the tour several weeks in advance, especially for the weekends. For last-minute bookings, we cannot guarantee a free spot in the lodge, but we will try our best or find the most suitable alternative for you.

Distance: 18 km (11,2 mi)
Elevation: 1800 vm (5900 feet)

*Different starting point possible upon request on a private tour.

Itinerary

We will start our tour by picking you up and driving to Krma valley (45min from Bled). Our meeting time depends on the forecast and time of the year and will be set a day or two before the tour. After a quick gear check, we will start walking in the forest, slowly starting to gain altitude before reaching a small pasture with a freshwater spring after about 2.5h. After a short break, another 2.5 hours of hiking awaits us before reaching the mountain hut Kredarica.

At the hut, we can leave some stuff we will not need for the summit push and gear up with helmets, harnesses and via ferrata sets. The summit climb takes around 1.5h and about the same time back to the hut. According to the weather and how we feel, we can do the summit climb on the first day in the afternoon or on the second day early in the morning.

From Kredarica we have about 3.5h of hiking back to the car, where we arrive usually sometime in the middle of the second day.

Accomodation

Triglavski dom na Kredarici
Take in the mesmerizing beauty of the mountains

Spend the night in an authentic alpine hut

Feel the thrill of standing on the ‘roof of Slovenia’

Enjoy the rarest view of the Julian Alps
It is important that your clothes are comfortable.
